The Individual Group Effort

Sometime near the end of March 2017, we went into the basement under a furniture warehouse in Wedding and put down live recordings of ten songs in a single day. For a band that rehearses as infrequently as we do, they were remarkably good! These recordings gathered digital dust for almost a year for myriad reasons, but we picked them up with renewed vigor earlier this year.

One of the biggest reasons we didn't immediately continue to work on these recordings is that, curse of modern life, everyone is pretty busy. The sheer logistics of arranging for all five of us to be in the same place at the same time is mind-melting. For that reason, we are taking the 21st century approach to working on this album: we are collaborating separately.

Using the initial recordings as the foundation, we're all independently recording our own various bits and pieces (vocals, background vocals, percussion, slide guitar, overdubs, robot meltdowns, underwater noises, etc). We export the individual tracks as stems and upload them to the cloud, where our MASTER ENGINEER (it is Sebastian), adds them to the mix and EQs it and cleans it all up.

Needless to say, it is the most excited I've been about a The Benja Men project since Goodbye Smile Mile in 2013!
