Ben's Subway Album Reviews: Shamir - Ratchet

Shamir does his own thing! Definitely a very unique album, a party thumper full of pulsing synths and falsetto vocals. It definitely belongs to a new generation, and geezer ex-pats like me will only have the loosest idea what lyrics like "No more basic, ratchet guys" actually means. But even generational gaps won't preclude you from grokking Shamir and this fun disco house album.

On a side note: There is a song called "Demon" on this album, and right as it started playing, the bedraggled mother of all coincidences walked by with a stroller containing a small baby in apparent need of an exorcism.

TL;DR This music is pretty good at making me feel out of touch!
