Subway Album Review #9Dilly Dally

The underside of a bridge in Portland, Oregon

The following is based on a true story: on my daily commute, I listen to albums I've never heard of and spout my opinions into the endless void of the internet.

#9 - Dilly Dally - Sore

First thing's first: this band wins a special award for the making an album of perfect door-to-door commuting playtime. It's great to be able to listen to the whole album in one go without a bunch of dead air time.

Holy balls, it's 1997 in my ears! Filthy guitars, power chords and leads that sound deceptively simple but are actually well crafted. It kinda reminds me of a Toadies album. In my book, that's a major compliment! But then the singing starts. Singing might be sort of generous for this brutal aural assault. It's like grunge karaoke with that lady who's always at the subway station drinking wine straight from the box at 8 am.

Did I mention I am pretty into this album? The grooves are slow, the hearts are on the sleeves exposed to all the most caustic elements, and it all just works for me (with the exception of the piano ballad closer, which is a bit of a misstep in my opinion).

TL;DR Authentic and glorious grunge revival!
